Carillon bellsOur 2017 Summer Carillon Series begins July 2 with a celebration: Independence Day weekend and an “opening day” picnic. Carol Jickling Lens, who began her carillon studies with Christ Church Cranbrook carillonneur Beverly Buchanan and who now is university carillonneur at the University of Denver in Colorado, brings a program sparkling with favorite patriotic tunes, familiar hymns and works by Sting and Billy Joel. Other carillonneurs in the series are Gordon Slater (July 9), Jim Fackenthal (July 16), Julie M. Ford (July 23), Jon Lehrer (July 30) and Parker Ludwig (August 6).

Our other guests also have included transcriptions of popular music along with music written specifically for the carillon. So you will enjoy Bach, Vivaldi, Van Den Gheyn, Barnes, Courter, Sondheim, Puccini and Rota. We think it will be a splendid way to spend a Sunday afternoon and encourage you to come weekly and bring friends and family.

For those who would like to know more about our beautiful sanctuary, a docent will be on hand each Sunday beginning 3 p.m. to answer questions and point out some of the many unique features of Christ Church Cranbrook. On July 2 and August 6 you are invited to tour the carillon tower following the day’s recital. Refreshments are served on the island in the hospitality tent.

There is no charge to attend these concerts.  Carillon Series Program
