Taking Your Place in the Body of Christ

By: Rev. Chris Harris

We recently experienced a medical emergency during the 10am service. A parishioner suddenly became lightheaded and fainted while sitting in her pew! Fortunately, members of our “medical ministry” sprung into action and were able to quickly provide the medical care and attention she needed. It was a beautiful moment of the Body of Christ coming together in a compassionate and potentially life-saving way. This is just one example of the many, if not countless ways, God has given us the gifts we need to love and serve one another. But, this could only happen because some of those with medical or nursing skills told us about their gifts!

Would you consider sharing yours as well? Help us discover our many gifts by telling us about yours! Whether it’s a skill you’ve honed over a lifetime, a deep passion for a particular cause, or a natural ability you were seemingly born with, God has gifted us all to build up the Body of Christ.

In his letters to the early church, St. Paul described the Body of Christ as made up of many parts, each with a unique role. Just as a body relies on every part—hands, feet, eyes, and heart—to function, so too does the community of faith rely on each person’s gifts. No two of us are the same, and no single talent or ability is insignificant; rather, each one complements the others so that together, we might care for and serve one another in ways we could never dream of alone! Together, each of us are essential in creating something greater than ourselves. That’s what it means to become the Body of Christ.

This month, we are inviting everyone to complete our “Time & Talent Survey”, to help us discover the countless gifts we have to share as a faith community. You can complete the survey online by clicking here! It only takes a few minutes and there is no obligation. You are not committing to anything. However, by sharing your skills and interests, you are helping us to discovery all the various ways we’ve been gifted as a faith community, and to discern how God might be inviting us to give them away.
