Rebecca (1940) is based on the novel by Daphne Du Maurier and stars Laurence Olivier and Joan Fontaine. This renowned adaptation of the novel was Alfred Hitchcock’s first American production and it received an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1940. It is a riveting story of a young newlywed who arrives at her husband’s imposing family estate on a windswept English coast and finds herself battling the shadow of the first wife, Rebecca. This black and white version also received an award for best cinematography. This suspenseful gothic story is not to be missed!
