Sunday school curriculum
Children 3 years through 2nd grade are taught using Godly PlayTM, this curriculum uses the Montessori method to teach the stories of the Bible through storytelling, ritual, and hands-on activities. The classroom is set up as a sacred space and roughly emulates what happens in the big church. The key to this approach is a worship context for telling and working with Biblical stories, instead of a school environment. Through storytelling using powerful language, through our wondering, through the community of players gathered together, we hear the deepest invitation of all: an invitation to come play with God. This approach was developed and classroom tested for over 25 years by Dr. Jerome Berryman, teacher, author and Episcopal priest. It is currently being used in churches of many denominations throughout the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. Godly Play offers a creative, child-honoring way of entering into and experiencing the biblical story. 3rd through 6th grade children are taught using the curriculum Living the Good News by Church Publishing. The Sunday school lessons feature age appropriate, Christ centered Bible teaching that promote spiritual growth, service projects and lasting fellowship among children.
We have a wonderful collection of very talented Sunday school teachers. Your children’s safety is a priority and each volunteer teacher is required by our diocese to take an online course titled “Safeguarding God’s Children”. I am proud of the requirement that ensures protection of the children entrusted to our care. Teachers teach in teams of two.
First Sunday The first Sunday of each month at the 10am service is designated as “First Sunday” an intergenerational worship where people of all ages gather to worship together. The Nursery will be available as usual. Please join us for this family friendly service. Special Children’s Worship Bulletins with stickers will be provided.
