Christ Church Cranbrook’s Thriving Families Program pairs a family living in Pontiac with a team of parishioners from our church to give them support and wrap-around care as they work on overcoming some challenges they face. The church also provides a financial gift generously funded by parishioners. Our first family is completing their work on August 31 and wanted to thank the congregation! If you are interested in working with a family or supporting them, contact Pastor Manisha here.
Dear Christ Church Cranbrook Congregation and Thriving Families Team,
On behalf of the Barber Family, I want to take a moment to share just how deeply this program has impacted our lives.
Not long ago, I experienced a major setback losing my storage unit and with it, countless precious memories and belongings I had worked so hard to provide for my family. Starting over from scratch was overwhelming. As an older adult returning to school full-time, I quickly realized that the journey wasn’t going to be easy, and I soon found myself in financial hardship.
That’s when the Thriving Families Program became more than just financial support it became a source of emotional and mental restoration. The women I met through this program exceeded every expectation. From breakfasts filled with laughter to meaningful conversations in my living room, each interaction reminded me I wasn’t alone. Sure, we had our ups and downs misunderstandings as we learned each other’s personalities but those moments were far outweighed by the joy, connection, and genuine care we shared.
I can honestly say there’s something special I admire in each and every team member. Just when you think you’ve met your favorite, someone else steps in with a new kind of kindness or wisdom, and you’re reminded how blessed you are to know them all.
The financial assistance helped lift me out of a place of anxiety and depression. From food and clothing to household items and furniture each gesture meant the world to us. I’ll never forget the group of men who helped me move, and the one strong woman who didn’t back down from the hard work. You filled our home with not just furniture, but love and hope.
Thanks to you, we now have new beds to sleep on, safe tires on our car, and a renewed sense of possibility. The motherly advice, the employment guidance, and the heartfelt conversations have helped me take the first steps toward building a new future.
I truly cannot thank you enough. The impact you’ve had on me and my family is immeasurable. To the church staff and executive team thank you for believing in us, for offering encouragement, support, and unwavering love. Your leadership and care have been life-changing.
Thank you, Christ Church Cranbrook, for being a true example of God’s love in action.
With deepest gratitude,
The Barber Family

I was unaware of The Thriving Family Program, until I read this testimony of gratitude for all the acts of kindness and concrete assistance that was provided. It was heartwarming and proof that as the saying goes, “ It takes a village. I want to learn more about this program. As a retired social worker I miss reaching out to others to help and the feeling that comes from working with others to help those in need.
Beautiful!
