How Community Makes All the Difference!

By: Joan Jensen

We’ve been hearing from various members each week—some of the many ways that Christ Church Cranbrook nourishes their soul.

For me, it’s the people I love and am blessed by!

I cherish the discussions within our various small groups, which I’ve been fortunate to be part of over the years. I love going deeper with people, getting to know them in ways that only small group community creates space for.

Thursday’s lively Gospel discussions over Zoom allow us the freedom to express our thoughts and reactions to the words of Jesus—and to hear the perspectives of others.

Delivering flowers as part of our Lay Visitor Ministry has created countless moments of connection and blessing—perhaps even more for me than for the person receiving them!

I’m enriched by the friends I’ve made from around the world: boarding students from Cranbrook Kingswood, families rooted in Christian faith traditions from South Korea, Kerala, India, Romania, and other denominations.

The ongoing Breathing Underwater class, where we’re all learning to grow from the wisdom of the Twelve Steps, has been transformative. Gathering around a table each week to pray and hear how people’s lives have literally been saved by their faith is deeply nourishing. Getting to know the men and women from various AA groups now joining us in worship—whose lives are being transformed in Christ—I leave each week energized and inspired!

We pledge every year for all those reasons and more: the Sunday forums presented by members on topics like Meditation and Holy Hospitality or Sacred Curiosity. The intergenerational beauty—from the youngest St. Francis singers to the wise elders walking among us. My formerly wiggly preschool Sunday School students who now sing with such serious focus in the Cranbrook Choristers. The VBS kids who so quickly become teenagers going on mission trips to NYC or Costa Rica.

I could go on and on!

I love this lively community of people who gather weekly to praise God for His many gifts to us all.

On November 22/23, we invite everyone who considers Christ Church Cranbrook to be their spiritual home to consider making a pledge to support the mission and ministry of this church in 2026. Please pray about how you might be called to give this year. You can make your pledge anytime here.
