The stirring Maundy Thursday service recounts the Last Supper and Betrayal of Jesus. Musical selections will culminate with the famous Adagio for Strings by Samuel Barber sung as an a cappella choral selection during Communion.
Jesus becomes our servant tonight. He washes the feet of his disciples. He then gives us a new commandment (Lt. mandatum) to follow: “Love one another as I have loved you.” So, we will participate in the ancient ritual of having our feet or hands washed by another as a sign of love for each other. We will then eat the Last Supper of Christ on earth. Finally, we will witness the moment Jesus is arrested and they strip him of everything and leave him to his death. Then we will wait to see what happens tomorrow.
