Much of the Bible evokes trauma either directly or indirectly. When we read passages that speak about exile and destruction, rape and murder, and an angry God who lashes out, we are naturally terrorized. What do we do with such Sacred texts? How can they be taken as “good news? How can our Scriptures become resources for resilience rather than triggers for retraumatization? Drawing from recent research in Biblical studies and trauma theory, we will explore strategies for interpretation that create connection and healing even while reading such difficult texts.
