By John Keck

When I first came to Christ Church Cranbrook, I didn’t expect it to so change my life.  But it truly has.  I came here with a rather strong political perspective which I will confess, wasn’t always tolerant of other beliefs.  It wasn’t long before I found myself in a bible study with people whose politics were very different than mine to say the least!  And I have to admit, it was a struggle at times.

And then something unexpected happened.  I attended the 90th Anniversary Party last year, and found myself dancing with one of my biggest political “adversaries” from our bible study.  Here I was, dancing with someone who was the exact opposite of my political thinking and having a great time!  We reminisced about growing up in the 60’s and all the changes we seen over our lives.

That night broke the ice and opened my eyes to what an amazing person she was.  In the months that followed, I found myself not only tolerating, but learning to appreciate those who disagree with me in ways that I never thought possible — or even desirable!   This amazing faith community, has taught me to be more humble and to truly listen which has caused me grow as a person and as a Christian.  I now try to give everyone my full attention and strive to truly listen, as I continue to grow in faith.  Thank you!

How has Christ Church Cranbrook help you to walk, grow or give in faith?  We’d love to hear your story!  Email them to the Rev. Chris Harris. We might feature it in an upcoming issue.
