WILLIAM J. DANAHER, JR.
Rector
The Rev. Dr. William J. Danaher is Rector of Christ Church Cranbrook in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. He serves on the governance board of The Salisbury School (www.thesalisburyschool.org). He also serves as Professor at Ecumenical Theological Seminary, where his primary responsibilities are in Homiletics (preaching). Previously, he was Dean of the Faculty of Theology and the Huron-Lawson Chair of Pastoral and Moral Theology at Huron University College in London, Ontario, Associate Professor in the John Henry Hobart Chair in Moral Theology at General Seminary in New York City, New York, and Associate Professor of Theology and Ethics at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee. In 2016, he was named Pastor of the Year by the Metropolitan Christian Council of Detroit and Windsor. In 2014, he was named a Luce Fellow in Theology by the Association of Theological Schools. In 2004, he was made a member of the Center of Theological Inquiry in Princeton, New Jersey, and in 2004, we also received the Bishop Hines Award for Preaching, a national award for sermons that connect the Scriptures with current social justice issues. He received his Ph.D. in Religious Ethics from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut, his M.Div. from Virginia Theological Seminary in Alexandria, Virginia, and his A.B. in History from Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. His publications explore the intersection of theology, ethics, and, most recently, the arts.
