RUDY DE VOS
Associate Director of Music & Organist
Rudy de Vos is an international prize-winning organist and church music director. He joined Christ Church Cranbrook as Associate Director of Music in August, 2024 having previously served as the first Director of Music following the opening of the monumental Cathedral of Christ the Light in Oakland, CA in 2008. In his 15 years there, he developed and oversaw a music program encompassing multiple choirs, established relationships with Bay Area ensembles such as Chanticleer, the San Francisco Boys Choir, and the Oakland Symphony Chorus, and led multiple outreaches to welcome the greater community through music. Prior to Oakland, he served as Director of Music at St. Anne Church in Rochester, NY where he followed Jonathan Ryan who served as music director during his Eastman student day. Rudy holds music degrees from the University of Pretoria, the University of North Texas, and a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the Eastman School of Music. In 2007, he won Second Prize in one of the largest international organ competitions in the world, the St. Albans in the UK. He grew up in South Africa and is the son of a Dutch Reformed Pastor. He lives in Ferndale with his two cats, Spencer and Emma, and enjoys wine, dining, hiking, reading, and films.
