Make a joyful noise to the Lord.

That call to worship is the driving force behind our music ministry at Christ Church Cranbrook. Our choirs and guest instrumentalists serve to inspire the congregation to worship God in song and to enhance our experience of God’s presence in the beauty of our majestic sanctuary.

Great Lakes Brass,  Artists-in-Residence at Christ Church Cranbrook

GAF_5676-2-X3The music department is pleased to announce Great Lakes Brass as Artists-in-Residence at Christ Church Cranbrook. By establishing this relationship, this group is, essentially, the “in-house” brass group for the church. They have an official presence here and will be the featured brass performers (either as a whole or individually) at Easter and Christmas, as well as other occasions such as Founders Day, concerts, and various other events through out the year. This is an honorary and prestigious appointment, reflecting the exceptional musicianship this ensemble offers our congregation and the surrounding community.

Founded in 1998 by trumpeter Mark Flegg and trombonist Aaron LaVere, The Great Lakes Brass has established itself as one of the premiere brass ensembles in the state of Michigan. Modeled after such prominent groups as the American Brass Quintet and the Altantic Brass Quintet, the mission of the Great Lakes Brass involves presenting the very best of the brass quintet repertoire to audiences across the state. Featuring music ranging from Gabrielli to Debussy to Duke Ellington, they deliver audiences high-energy, exciting performances.

The members of the Great Lakes Brass hail from across Michigan and northern Ohio, from Farmington Hills to Kalamazoo to Midland to Toledo. United by a love for brass chamber music, they come together on a regular basis to rehearse and perform the most challenging and rewarding selections in the repertoire. In addition to their membership in the Great Lakes Brass, the musicians perform with many other area ensembles, including the Detroit Symphony, Michigan Opera Theater, Toledo Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony, Flint Symphony, Midland Symphony, and others.
