The Sunflower Seed: A Reflection on New Life

By Laura MacNewman

When this seed is planted in the earth,
it will be in complete darkness.
When you put a little water on it,
the light will reach into the darkness,
and it will come into being;
it will emerge.
This sunflower loves the Sun,
and will follow it all day long and all life long;
perpetually turning and ascending,
until it comes to know its true nature:
that which bears all things [1 Cor 13:7];
the only thing that is as strong as death [Song of Solomon 8:6; 1 Jn 4:16];
that is Love.
