In collaboration with Christopher Furlong, Director of Security at Cranbrook Educational Community (CEC), we are implementing an approach to campus safety that mirrors the system already in place at CEC. This collaboration allows both of our organizations to benefit from the synergy of shared best practices and coordination between our communities. Specifically, we will share a Standard Response Protocol system, which will establish common terminology and emergency response plans. Additionally, we will be implementing regular ALICE training (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate), providing our leaders with the most effective, research-based response to active shooter events.
On Saturday, October 18, from 9:00 – 11:00 AM, Mr. Furlong is coming to Christ Church Cranbrook to present an overview of and training on our integrated resilience plan. He will be joined by Captain Tom VanSimaeys of the Bloomfield Hills Police, who is a certified ALICE instructor. I encourage everyone to attend, and particularly our staff and lay leaders serving on the vestry, committees, and ministries. The presentation will take place in the sanctuary. Mr. Furlong’s presentation will be available online, and additional programs and opportunities will be forthcoming in the next few weeks.
