I’ve been a member of the Young Adult Group for two years now. This year, we’ve gone to Greenfield Village, Kensington Metro Park, played Whirlyball, had a game night, and are planning on going to the Renaissance Festival this month. One thing that has always stuck with me about church is the sense of community. Whether it’s the congregation as a whole, those Thursday evening classes, the various ministries, or even the couple dozen or so people we have here on staff.
Finding a place where you feel like you belong is so important in this day and age when it seems we’re all sequestered in our own online bubbles dictated by what The Algorithm deems engaging. But having an offline community – a place to come together, and a congregation that actually, you know, congregates – breaks that bubble, even if just for the time we’re together. I remember the services after the COVID lockdowns feeling so refreshing and alive. After it being basically just me doing AV, the clergy, the musicians, and those big white boxes in the sanctuary for however many weeks, it was like experiencing church in a whole new way. That sense of community and togetherness, to me, is one of the great strengths of Christ Church Cranbrook. It doesn’t take too long to find a community where you feel like you fit in.
So if you’re an adult of the younger variety, maybe this community is a good fit. Maybe there’ll be jousting at the Ren Faire (or those huge turkey legs, at least). If that’s not your speed, just hang out. We have an empty spot at our table.
